The teaching of the Gongchig ("The Holistic Enlightened View”) by Khenchen Könchog Gyaltshen Rinpoche based on the commentary called "The Lamp of Wisdom Illumination" has now completed its ninth week.
This week the presentation of the Gongchig as one hundred and fifty main ‘Vajra statements’ divided into seven sections has been completed with the teaching of the seventh section, “Key Points Concerning the Result, Buddhahood.” A translation of the root text for the seventh section has been completed based on the teachings of this week. This is included as a summary of these teachings.
Yesterday, the last day of teachings, featured an extensive mandala offering as a token of thanks to Khenchen Rinpoche by the Working Committee members of the Drikung Kagyu Institute, the director of Samtenling Nunnery, the secretary of the Drikung Kagyu Institute, the Chakzoe of the Drikung Labrang, the Goekie (Disciplinarian), the monks and nuns, and the western participants. For the lunch after the teaching, HH Taklung Rinpoche was joined by the Khenpos and teachers of the Drikung Kagyu Institute.
Today, HH Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche and HH Taklung Shabdrung presided over an extensive Lama Chöpa Tsok to celebrate the successful completion of this two-month teaching. Kyabgon Rinpoche praised this successful teaching, and explained in detail about Khenchen Rinpoche’s lifelong commitment to the study, practice, teaching, text translation, and text publishing in support of the Drikung Kagyu lineage.
His Holiness also praised Ven. Bargyal Konchog Tenzin for his hard work producing a set of Thangkas depicting each of the Drikung lineage holders, the Six Ornaments (the six main masters from India), the two Supreme Ones of the Vinaya, and so forth. In addition, Khenchen Rinpoche made an extensive mandala offering to HH Kyabgon Rinpoche, on behalf of all the participants of the Gongchig teaching, to show his and our deep appreciation for everything His Holiness has done to support the lineage. And to finish the day’s events a group photo was taken of all the happy participants.
And there is still more: Tomorrow and the day after, the Gongchig Seminar will be held to give students of this course a chance to present papers they have written on the Gongchig, and for these to be discussed. The main session will be for the monks and nuns in Tibetan at Kagyu College, and there will be a parallel seminar at the Songtsen Library for the those of the English Gongchig recitation class to also present papers they have written on the Gongchig and to discuss.
This two months of learning about the Gongchig was just the beginning – now the students are beginning the process of integrating the meaning of the teachings and then skillfully putting them into practice.
