His Holiness the 37th Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang was honored to receive the Sakyamuni Buddha International Award from the Ashwaghosh Buddhist Foundation, in Nagpur.
Due to His Holiness recent health reason, he was not able to attend the function personally to receive the International Award.
Hence, His Holiness directed his secretary Acharya Kinley Gyaltsen to attend the ceremony and to humbly receive the International Award on behalf of His Holiness and the Drikung Kagyu Lineage in general.
On 29th March 2013, Acharya Kinley arrived at the Baba Sahib Bhimrao Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur. He was received by members of the foundation with a warm welcome, was offered a garland of flowers and escorted to the Hiwali Adhiveshan, an official guest house in Nagpur.
On 30th March 2013, in the morning Acharya Kinley was invited to Deeksha Bhumi (Place for Three Refuge), where on 14th September 1956, the Bodhisattva Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar took Deeksha and engaged in Buddhism with hundreds and thousands of followers. Acharya Kinley was also invited to the museum that presents Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and his wonderful works for the under privileged and his countrymen in India.
In the afternoon, the function for the award was convened at the Press Conference Hall, Dhantoli, Nagpur. All the chief guests were offered flowers and were enchanted with the recitation of the Mangalacharan in Sanskrit, and they offered light and flowers to the image of Buddha and Bodhisattva Dr. Ambedkar.
The chairperson’s speech was delivered by Dr. Milind Jiwane and he said “ It is my great pleasure that, Global Personality - H.H. the 37th Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, head of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism has accepted my request and has sent his representative Hon. Acharya Kinley Gyaltsen to Naga city, Buddha’s land, for the first time. I think, this is our great achievement.” Dr. Milind further added that he was taking this opportunity to honour His Holiness by offering the “Sakyamuni Buddha International Award 2013” in virtue of His Holiness’s initiative and active role to spread Buddhism for the welfare of all sentient beings throughout the world.
Acharya Kinley humbly accepted the Sakyamuni Buddha International Award 2013 on behalf of His Holiness and read out the letter of His Holiness “Presentation on the occasion of the Sakyamuni Buddha International Award 2013.” Thereafter the Dhamma Chintak National Award 2013 was offered to Prof.Bhau Lokhande, Dhamma Nag National Award 2013 was offered to Hon.Er.Vijay Meshram, Dhamma Mitta National Award 2013 was offered to Hon.Prakash Patanka and Dhamma Special National Award 2013 was offered to Hon.Adv. Nanda Parate. All the awardees presented a wonderful speech and the people who joined the function were all rejoiced.
On 31st March 2013, the Press Conference and interview was organized at the Ravi Bhavan. On 1st of April 2013, they organized the tour and sightseeing program. His Holiness was happy to see the award and sends back many thanks to Naga people for their sincere devotion, recognition and for the wonderful award.
