On May 29, at 6.30 am His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang arrived in Ladhak. His Eminence Togden Rinpoche and the representatives of different Monasteries and Associations received His Holiness inside the airport and offered khataks.
At the airport, also a traditional procession of warm welcome was organized by the monks from Lamayuru Monastery. More than hundred cars line up and accompanied the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang along the 25 kilometers from the airport to Phyang Monastery, where a traditional welcome ceremony took place.
Among the guests present at the ceremony were the president of the Ladakh Buddhist Association, the president of Ladakh Gompa Association, Mr. Tsering Murup, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Leh, Mr. Sonam Dorje, Executive Councillor for Agriculture, Ven. Dr. Wangchuk Dorjee Negi, Associate Professor at the Central University of Buddhist Studies, the representative of Drukpa Hemis Monastery, Ven. Chagzö Shagpo from Gelugpa Spituk Monastery, the representative of Sakya Matho Monastery, representatives of other Buddhist traditions, as well as the president of the Tibetan Women’s Association from Leh and others.
Following the ceremony, His Holiness offered blessings to all the people present and Phyang Monastery offered breakfast for all. His Holiness is in good health and the next morning he withdrew to his room and started reading the Prajnaparamita Sutra (Sutra on the Perfection of Wisdom, Tib. shes rab kyi pha rol tu phyin pa mdo) from a beautiful old manuscript kept in Phyang Monastery.
