On July 16, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang commenced the inauguration ceremony for the newly built Hevajra Temple at Phyang Monastery in Ladakh. Thousands of people gathered for the celebration and teachings at the monastery.
On the first day His Holiness together with monks and nuns undertook the preparatory consecration for the temple, and on the following day, the actual consecration was performed.
During the ceremony His Holiness enthroned most Ven. Rigyal Rinpoche as the Rinpoche of the Phyang Monastery. Rigyal Rinpoche’s father and mother, his relatives and friends and almost thousand people gathered for the enthronement.
The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang also conferred the title Drubpon of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage to Lama Lodru and the title of Khenpo to Geshe Namgyal of the Phyang Monastery.
On July 18, at 9:30 am the Grand Inauguration of the Hevajra Temple was functioned by cutting the ribbon at the main door of the temple, followed by lighting up the lamp and auspicious prayers by His Holiness, monks, and nuns. The Chief Executive Councillor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Rigzin Spalbar and many distinguish guests were presented. At 10:00 am at the teachings ground below the monastery, Mr. Spalbar gave a speech on account of the importance of the temple and its benefit to the society and people.
At 11:15 am the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang addressed the audience by stating that he was happy to be here for the opening ceremony with all the people gathered for the celebration. His Holiness pointed out that it is because of our hard work and good fortune that we were able to complete the new temple and also able to gather here for the celebration. Thereafter His Holiness offered a scarf and a statue of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon to the sponsors of the Hevajra Temple, and also to all the people who supported and helped to build the temple. After Lunch there were cultural show and entertainment.
On July 19, His Holiness conferred the preparatory empowerment of Avalokiteshvara which came down from King Songtsen Gampo and is known as the empowerment of Royal Lineage.
On July 20 the actual empowerment of Avalokiteshvara was bestowed for all. On July 21st, the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang gave the transmission of the Drikung Phowa Chenmo and the empowerment of Amitayus (Long Life Empowerment). Thousands of people gathered for the transmission and empowerment. On July 22, Long Life Prayers for His Holiness and Grand Mandala Offerings were conducted by the monastery and the village people.
