Mandala Offering for His Holiness

phym01Starting from August 12, the Long Life Mandala Offering Puja was conducted at Phyang Tashi Gatsel Monastery by all the people, monks and nuns from the monasteries of Phyang, Lamayuru, and Sharchukhul.

The puja was performed in order to prolong the life of His Holiness the 37th Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Konchog Tenzin Kunzang Thrinle Lhundrup Palzangpo, and that his Buddha Dharma activities as well as the Drikung Kagyu order may flourish.

phym02His Eminence Togden Rinpoche and the Vajracharya of Phyang, Lamayuru and Sharchukhul led the Mandala offering Puja with all the monks for eight days. The White Tara Puja was done for the first four days, and the Usnishavijaya Puja (Thousands Offerings Puja) was conducted for another four days. Every morning the Puja of Machig Drupai Gyalmo was conducted for eight days. On the full moon day of August 21, the Vajracharya of the Mandala Offering H.E. Togden Rinpoche offered the Grand Mandala Offering to His Holiness on behalf of all the people, monks and nuns of Phyang, Lamayuru, and Sharchukhul. The Minister for Tourism and Culture of Jammu and Kashmir, Nawang Rigzin Jora, and the Chief Executive Councillor of Leh, Ladakh, Rigzin Spalbar, the presidents of the Ladakh Buddhist Association and the Ladakh Monastery Association, as well as head man of the villages and some thousands people participated in the Mandala Offering.

During the Mandala Offering Ceremony, His Holiness said that he was very happy to be with all the devoted people of Ladakh, all the representatives of the Drikung Kagyu Monasteries, and conveyed many thanks and Tashi Delek for all. Holiness added that this is a result of dependent origination and the Drikungpa were masters of the law of dependent origination. He mentioned that during the past two years he was not feeling well and all the monasteries had done grand pujas for his well being in Tibet and India, and also all over the world. Because of all these dependent factors now he is well and there is no need to worry. Now here in Ladakh every effort should be made to improve education and institutions for studies, and to keep up the continuity of the education in monasteries. We have established Jangchubling Monastery and now we have very good conditions for education on the Buddha Dharma. In Tibet we also had the opportunity to renovate the monasteries since 1979 and now there are favorable conditions for the flourishing of the Buddha Dharma. Moreover, His Holiness the 36th Drikung Kyabgon Chungtsang Chökyi Nangwa has took the great responsibility of re-establishing the Drikung Kagyu Monasteries, especially in the Kham area. He visited all the Drikung Kagyu Monasteries and blessed many with his teachings and wisdom. All of this comes from our sincere devotion and pure motivation for the Buddha Dharma in general and for the Drikung Kagyu Lineage in particular.

In the end His Holiness gracefully announced that in 2017 we should all come and celebrate the 800th Anniversary of the Parinirvana Day of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon at Jangchubling Monastery in Dehradun, India. Moreover, throughout this very special year in the history of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage there will be celebrations and cultural performances at all Drikung Kagyu monasteries and centers world wide to commemorate the anniversary of Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon's 800th Parinirvana Day.
