His Holiness Visits Shara, Ladakh

Shara01On August 31, 2013, as requested by the people of Shara, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang visited Drikung Kagyu Nayab Duddul Choling Monastery at Shara. Monks and nuns, and the people of the region received His Holiness and the entourage with a warm welcome.

Shara02Right after his arrival, they made a mandala offering to His Holiness and offered tea and fried rice for all at the gathering. Thereafter His Holiness did prayers and blessed the place where the new temple is going to be built.

After Lunch, the headmen of the region gave speeches at the gathering, followed by an address of His Holiness in which he extended many good wishes and Tashi Delek to all the headmen and people of the region. The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang gave advice by saying: “Today on this special occasion, we are all fortunate to be here at this sacred place Shara Chumig Monastery which was prophesized by Kyobpa Jigten Sumgon. I am happy to see the upcoming project of Shara and people and monks to built the new temple and museum, which were well designed. In the morning we have successfully completed the land puja for the construction, and all this happened smoothly because of you people’s pure motivation and unity. I rejoice over the plan and project that you people have put forward and wish you all the best.”

Shara03His Holiness further added that Shara is the place where there are followers of the Drikung Kagyu, Drukpa Kagyu and Gelug tradition, supporting each other and cooperating with each other for the renovation of their temples and so on. He expressed the wish that the three traditions maintain these valuable qualities and keep them up in the future.

In the end, the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang gave advice on the conservation of the environment and nature, which is the basis of our health and life. He stated that we all should take care of our surrounding and keep it clean. If we don’t care about our environment and surrounding, it will result in lots of diseases and cost lots of lives of other sentient beings too. Therefore, as modern technologies develop we should also upgrade our inner qualities of loving kindness and compassion, which is the core practice of Buddhism.
