International Drikung Kagyu Council
Honoured to organise the 800th Commemoration of Lord Jigten Sumong's Maha Parinirvana.
This year's Spring Teachings started on March 5th at the Jangchubling Monastery in Dehradun. His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche gave teachings on the Heart Sutra, which is the heart essence of all the teachings of Buddha. The teachings lasted for four days from 9am until 12pm. Lunch was followed by discussion sessions at the Kagyu College for monks, nuns and foreigners from south east asian countries led by Most Ven. Khenpo Nyima Gyaltsen, and for foreigners from Europe, USA, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore led by Most Ven. Khenpo Rangdol.
On March 9th H.H. gave a Phowa Transmission for over 11000 local people from the area of Dehradun and foreigners from overseas. After lunch H.H. bestowed the Long Life Empowerment and gave blessings to all the people gathered. H.H. also gave the advice that, we all should take care of our health, and provide a modern education with an emphasis on traditional values to our children. Holiness added that, the way of teaching in Tibetan Monasteries or in the Tibetan community should be updated according to the modern education system, since the the modern system provides many skillful methods of teaching. In the past it took about five years to complete the one course of teaching, but nowadays in the modern education system it can be completed in one month, which is due to the modern ways of teaching. We should learn and take the good knowledge from the modern ways of teaching, while keeping our own traditional skills which were passed down for thousands of years.
