News from Kagyu College, April 2014

We would like to update you with some news from Kagyu College.

On the 9th of April His Holiness was invited to Kagyu College by the D.K.I.working and managing committees of Kagyu College to lead the annual programmes. Around 3 pm, His Holiness was received by all the monks and nuns at Kagyu College temple and the programmes were started as follows:

Khenpo Konchok Rangdol, the principle of Kagyu College, gave a welcome and introductory speech.

Khenpo (Tripa) of the main seat Jangchubling monastery Khenpo Nyima Gyaltsen read out the newly appointed staff and His Holiness gave white scarves to them with his blessing. Uzin Pema Rigzin, the director of the main seat at Jangchubling monastery, resigned on health grounds, he had served as a director for five years but His Holiness directly appointed him as a vice director. The most Venerable Rigyal Rinpoche was appointed as a new director of the main seat Jangchubling monastery.

kagycollegetemplespeechThe principle of the Kagyu College, Khenpo Konchok Rangdol, also resigned for personal reasons having completed nearly fifteen years service as a principal of the D.K.Institute and Kagyu College but His Holiness again directly appointed him as a principle and Khenpo Konchok Choskyab was appointed as a vice principle of the Kagyu College.

The working committee of the Drikung Kagyu, Institute Khenpo Tripa Nyima Gyaltsen, Khenpo Konchok Rangdol and Tenzin Jampa resigned and the most Venerable Rigyal Rinpoche, Khenpo Konchok Urgyen and Kyorpon Konchok Tenpa were newly appointed to the D.K.I.Wroking committee for a period of two years.

The former manager of the D.K.Himalaya guest house at Sahastradhara, Chakzoe Tsulwang, was thanked and offered a white scarf by His Holiness.

Shanta Kumar, Namgyal Gyalpo, Yangphel and Konchok Gyaltsen were appointed as new managers of the D.K.Himalaya guest house.

Former resident Lama of the Goldam village, Lhopon Konchok Gyalpo, resigned and Lhopon Konchok Tseten was appointed as a new Lama for the above mentioned village for two years.

hhkhenposgroupphotoThis year, four students will be graduating from Kagyu College and Konchok Tsewang was appointed as a disciplinarian of the Jangchbling monastatery, Dawa Tenzin was appointed as a teacher of Drikung Kagyu Samtenling nunnery, Tenzin Phuntsok was appointed as a teacher of Bumang Jampa ling monastery and Thinley Phuntsok was appointed as a teacher of the Kagyu College. Similarly, former kitchen manager of the kagyu College Konchok Tundup was appointed as a staff member of Jangchubling monastery and Konchok Tharpa was appointed as a new kitchen manager of the Kagyu College.

After that the exam controller, Kyorpon Konchok Gyaltsen, read out the first, second and third positions of the 2013 examination and all those received certificates and presents from Holiness with his blessing. Thereafter, exam controller Khenpo Konchok Choskyab gave a concluding speech about the examination of the year 2013.

After that His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang gave a speech whereby he expressed his greetings to everyone and gratitude to the staff members who have been working very hard for many years. His Holiness talked about the importance of education in the twenty first century. This was followed by his giving a talk about the Drikung Kagyu lineage and he said that every one of us must study the history of the lineage thoroughly. Lastly he spoke about his future plans such as Shravasti project and the plantation of the Green revolution project in Ladakh called 'Go Green Go Organic' to plant the Sea Buck Thorn for five kilometres in the coming five years.

Tenzin Jampa, member of the D.K.I. working committee, gave a closing speech of gratitude where he thanked His Holiness for his precious time and the very meaningful talk that His Holiness gave.
