Ms. Adelyn, Dr. Chuang and the event team from Malaysia had arrived to Jangchubling, Dehra Dun, on the afternoon of the 22nd April and immediately conducted a briefing on The Great Shravasti – Buddhist Cultural Assembly 2015 event together for the Working Committee members under the supervision of His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang. The meeting had introduced the set-up of the event and the execution procedures.
His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang was first invited to explain the objective of the event. With the vast development in the 21st century, the communication among different community has widely increased. With the objective of the event being for the Buddhist pilgrims from different lineages together and join the activities at Shravasti for the benefits of the living being. On the morning of the 23rd a teaching session on “Outdoor Event Organizing” was conducted at the library by Ms. Adelyn to the students of The Drikung Kagyu Institute. An estimated 50 college students had joined the session from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. The students were eventually organized into working groups and were assigned their tasks under sub-departments to prepare for organizing The Great Shravasti Event. (The objectives of this training was to give lessons to the lamas and nuns on the latest development on event organizing and management. The students were trained so as to be able to organize the event independently in the future.) Later, The Rainbow of Life Forces (ROLF) Gold Ribbon Gift Hand-over Ceremony was successfully held at the monastery; presented by Ms. Adelyn and Dr. Chuang.
Next day, His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang, Ms. Adelyn, Dr. Chuang, the lamas and the working team travelled 14 hours by train through the night from Dehra Dun to Lucknow and later arrived at Shravasti after another exhausting 5-hour car ride. On the evening of the same day, the architect and the engineering contractor met His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang and the team at the construction site in Shravasti for a ground-details briefing.
The coordinators of The Great Shravasti event – Lama Gyaltsen and lama Sherab had contacted the Uttar Pradesh District Secretary on the airport development at Shravasti. They had requested the district to consider constructing an airport of the size which may accommodate at least 10 airplanes. In the early morning of the 25th, His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang brought the team members for a prayers at Jetavana. Besides, His Holiness and the team also dropped by the newly constructed airport at Shravasti and were informed by the authority that the airport will be launched in August and may expand from 150m to 2000m in the near future. It is a blessing for all those who wish to participate in The Great Shravasti Event in November this year as travel time will be greatly reduced. In the afternoon, they made a site layout planning at the event venue.
(On January 13th, last year, His Holiness The Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang had pre-launched the site by a ground-breaking ceremony. The permit to proceed with construction was obtained on schedule.)
