Following the invitation by the Chinese Buddhist Drikung Kagyu Association in Taipei, Taiwan, His Holiness the Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang arrived in Taiwan on Dec. 21, 2015. His Holiness was warmly welcomed by the Spiritual Director of the Chinese Buddhist Drikung Kagyu Association Most Honorable Senge Tenzin Rinpoche, and the Tulkus, Khenpos, Drupons, monks, and nuns of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage. Also present were Mr. Pen-Tsao Chang and distinguished guests and devotees who gathered at the airport, holding auspicious scarfs to welcome His Holiness.
HH was directly taken to the Grand Hotel for a welcoming tea ceremony with all the Rinpoches, Khenpos and Drupons of Drikung Kagyu Lineage, distinguished guests, after which he could rest.
On Dec. 26, 2015, HH gave the empowerment of Achi Choki Dolma, one of the main dharma protectors of the Drikung Lineage. In the morning, HH performed the self-empowerment and after lunch he gave the Achi empowerment. All the Drikung Kagyu followers and disciples and some important guests gathered for the empowerment and then also received Dharma teachings.
On Dec. 29, 2015, HH had an open dialogue with several actors, celebrities, and movie producers in the Taipei City, Taiwan on the challenges of the modern world and solutions to these problems. His Holiness said that we have been working for centuries to become happy, but because of our ignorance, we have destroyed our natural surroundings. Not only humans, but all other sentient beings as well are facing the same problems due to the mistakes of us humans. His Holiness said that the happiness depends not only on material development, but is mainly rooted in our inner growth. With an altruistic mind of bodhichitta the wellbeing of the earth and its beings will flourish and the benefits for oneself and all beings will be accomplished.
In the evening of Jan. 1, 2016, HH participated in the Happy New Year celebration with the Drikung Kagyu disciples and followers. HH also presided in a ceremony for the publishing of the Ganges of Mahamudra book, and compassionately offered instructions and a transmission of this Mahamudra text.
Afterwards, His Holiness had dinner and together with Rinpoches, Khenpos, Drupons, Lopons, and disciples, he enjoyed cultural performances. These were followed by the slideshow of the Go Green & Go Organic project and the premiere of the documentary Shravasti Buddhist Cultural Assembly 2015, which presented His Holiness’ vision.
On Jan 2 and 3, 2016, His Holiness compassionately offered the empowerment of the great Sadhana of Ushnisha Vijaya and the ceremony of Thousand Offerings in Taipei. The offerings of one thousand parasols, victory banners, tormas, butter lamps, and incense plant the seeds for the participants to obtain protection, victory, affluence, wisdom, and fame. This ceremony of Thousand Offerings of Namgyalma is very important because it is a swift way to purify the misdeeds that we have committed over thousands of years in past, create virtues for thousands of years to come, and ripen the fruits of peace and liberation for many millions of sentient beings now and in the future. All the Drikung Kagyu Rinpoches, Drupons, Lopons, and followers joined in this Two-day Puja ceremony.
