Announcement

JigtenDear Sangha and laypeople who are under the same teacher and lineage. The rays of the sun radiate on the unpolluted pure samaya of disciples, like drops of milk that have merged into an ocean of milk. Here is an important announcement for your kind attention. Thus, it was mentioned in the Sutra of Complete Increasing Wisdom:

“In the north snowy mountain range, a great being will appear by the name of Ratnashri. This supreme man will be renown in the world, he will greatly serve my teaching.”

Also in many other sutras and tantras the Buddha had expressed prophecies regarding activities of the being, the Lord Jigten Sumgon. Multitude of Indian and Tibetan scholars and Siddhas praised him as a supreme being. The completely enlightened lord, the great Drikungpa, incomparable Protector Jikten Sumgon was the leader of the 180,000 followers in a single assembly. Having collecting 100,000 monastic counting sticks at the same time, he became the second Teacher, the great regent of the lord Buddha. A great number of his disciples and followers were spread throughout all corners of remote caves and hermitages for retreat in Tibet. During that time in Tibet the glorious Drikung Kagyu lineage was the fastest spreading and most flourishing school.

Thus, it was mentioned in the history of Tibetan Buddhism called A Scholars’ Feast: “All the mountains belong to Drikungpa mountain dwellers, All the flatlands belong to Drikungpa flatland dwellers.”

This saying was renowned and heard by everybody. His teaching was also known as a Great Chariot. Even though he was never separated from his truth body or Dharmakaya which is unchanging, unwavering and great permanence, his form body manifested into the ocean of three faiths to perform activities from the East to the West. His unimaginable manifestations will continuously manifest till the entire cyclic existence becomes empty. One of the many activities for the benefit of disciples who cling to permanence was the dissolution of his form body into Dharmadatu. Next year, that is 2017 according ti the Western calendar, and year 2144 of the Fire Bird according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, there will be commemoration of 800 years since Lord Jigten Sumgon entered parinirvana and 2560 years since Lord Buddha’s Parinirvana.

The Lord Jigten Sumgon’s parinirvana is important to the followers in order to get inspiration and faith in following the steps on the path of liberation.

We would like to encourage the entire Drikung Kagyu monasteries and centres around the world to commemorate this anniversary in a different ways within your personal capacity since there is still one year to the actual event. For your kind attention, the main anniversary commemoration of Lord Jigten Sumgon’s body, speech and mind qualities and activities will begin at the monastery Drikung Kagyu Jangchubling, Dehradun in India on 19th of October 2017, which is 30th day of 8th month in the Tibetan lunar calendar.
