International Drikung Kagyu Council
Honoured to organise the 800th Commemoration of Lord Jigten Sumong's Maha Parinirvana.
Dear brothers and sisters,
His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Thinley Lhundup asked everyone to advocate for the designation of Bears Ears as a national monument to protect these lands for Native Americans and the whole world.
Utah’s Bears Ears is a sacred region to many Native Americans and home to more than 100,000 archaeological sites. However, it is not protected. As a result, yet looting, grave robbing, oil drilling, mining and many other activities are jeopardizing the integrity of this sacred cultural landscape.
In order to advocate for the protection of the Bears Ears, the Inter-Tribal Coalition that consists of five sovereign Native American Tribes-Hopi, Navajo, Uintah and Ouray Ute, Ute Mountain Ute, and Zuni-submitted a proposal to ask President Obama to establish the 1.9-million-acre region as a national monument.
On Saturday, July 16th, a public hearing will be hosted regarding this proposal and the management of Bears Ears. Support from the general public is greatly needed.
His Holiness asked everyone to join this advocacy by talking about threats facing Bears Ears, sharing Native Americans’ advocacy efforts, submitting a petition to President Obama on your behalf (using the following link https://sierra.secure.force.com/actions/National… ) and sharing this link on your various social media accounts and with your family and friends.
Thank you very much!
